Frequently Asked Questions
What does therapy look like?
Therapy is a collaborative process where we work together to address your challenges and achieve your personalized goals. Sessions involve discussing your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. My goal is to help you change behaviors that interrupt your daily life and build skills for long-term wellness.
Initial Consultation
A call to understand your needs and determine if we are a good fit.
Sessions
1-3
Gather information on your current life and past events to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan.
Ongoing Sessions
Weekly sessions focusing on personalized goals with a gradual decrease in session frequency as you prepare to graduate from therapy.
How long does treatment last?
Therapy is a considerable investment in your overall health. My goal is to help you to understand yourself and teach you the skills to thrive on your own. I consider therapy a short-term investment for long-term benefits.
The common course of therapy is 20-40 weeks but may be less or more depending on various factors, such as the complexity of your situation, motivation to engage in treatment, and willingness to complete between session homework.
What does it mean to build a life worth living?
Having a life worth living is about living your life guided by your values and feeling fulfilled even in the face of hardship and painful events. We can explore together what your life worth living goals are and make a plan for how to achieve them.
Why Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)?
DBT is a proven, evidence-based therapy that can help individuals struggling with intense emotions, high-risk behaviors, or unstable relationships. The structured approach of DBT includes learning mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. This therapy can significantly improve your ability to handle emotional challenges and enhance your overall quality of life. DBT offers a framework of balancing acceptance and change to build a life worth living.
How do you protect confidentiality?
Confidentiality is one of the foundations of therapy; licensed mental health therapists are bound by ethical codes as well as by law. As with any therapy, there are some limitations to confidentiality in specific circumstances, and you will be informed of these before therapy starts. You will have the opportunity to discuss these with me to ensure you understand and feel comfortable moving forward. All software used is secure and fully HIPAA compliant, meaning that it meets the highest standards for storing personal health information. If you have any questions or concerns about confidentiality at any point, please share these with me.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. Psychologists and mental health therapists do not prescribe medication. With your permission, I will speak with treating psychiatrists and other prescribing professionals to ensure you receive great coordination of care.
Do you take insurance?
I do not accept insurance, however there are ways you may receive reimbursement from your carrier if eligible. Please review the fees page for more information.
